On December 2, 2017,
Dr. Miguel Villarroel, visited the headquarters of the chapter of Puerto Rico of the American Red Cross. During this visit, he was able to observe the multiple operations carried out by this national society after the devastating hurricane María. The team consisting of Keith Alvey (Chief of Operations) and Lee Vanessa Feliciano (Regional Executive of Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands) explained in detail to Dr. Villarroel how the food distribution operations, hygiene kits and water purification. They also demonstrated the new satellite system to offer the most affected populations communication and internet services.
Then a reception was held with the leaders of each one of the areas that work in the operation due to the natural catastrophe.
On December 3, the team formed by Keith Alvey (Director of Operations of the American Red Cross) Becky McCony and Victoria Willhite accompanied the vice president of the IFRC, Dr. Miguel Villarroel, to the field to see the operations. There, it was possible to highlight the visit to the town of Canovanas ¨Villa Hugo I¨ where the distribution of material for water purification was carried out. Then, a visit was made to the town of Loiza, where the distribution of food was made to more than 170 families residing there.
All this program coordinated and directed by the American Red Cross has been a success in favor of the most vulnerable sectors of the island.
