8th MENA Conference in Tehran, Iran

The 8th Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Conference was held from the 21st to the 24th of April, 2013, in Tehran, the Islamic Republic of Iran. Countries of the region attended the meeting, with the participation of 20 National Societies from the Arab world and other National Societies from all five continents. Representatives of the International Federation and the ICRC also participated in the conference which was held successfully.

During this conference, topics of great interest for the Movement were addressed, such as the analysis of the Fundamental Principles and the current situation faced by countries in the region with existing armed conflicts. Particular emphasis was placed on the case of Syria and its Red Crescent Society. A tribute was paid to volunteers of the Syrian National Society who have lost their lives during the internal conflicts.

All guests expressed their gratitude for the kind hospitality and brilliant organization of the conference to the President of the Iranian National Society, Dr. Abolhassan Faghig, and to the many volunteers that made this event possible.

It should be noted that during this conference, the Venezuelan National Society, represented by Dr. Villarroel and the Tajikistan Red Crescent Society, represented by its Secretary General, Zafar Muhabbatov, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
