The Italian Red Cross organized special events on June 24th and 26th to commemorate the battle of Solferino. Said event culminated with “la Fiaccolata”, a vigil and 10 Km march attended by ove 10.000 people.

On May 26th and 27th, 2017, in the city of Punta Cana, Dominican Republic took place the Regional Inter-American Red Cross Committee meeting (CORI). 29 National Societies from said continent were present. Important decisions were made regarding the future of our Continent and the Movement.

On April 9th and 12th, 2017, on Abijen, Côte d’Ivoire took place the IX Pan African Conference (Investing on Africa). Dr. Miguel Villarroel (Vice-President of the Venezuelan Red Cross) represented the only National Society of the American Continent present on said conference.

Dr. Miguel Villarroel, participated in the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Panamanian Red Cross. This event was attended by most of the National Societies of the Continent. Likewise, at the gala dinner hosted by the Panamanian Red Cross, the President of the Republic, Juan Carlos Varela, was present.
